Aromatherapy is an ancient form of healing which dates back to Egyptian times when oils were used in the embalming of Mummies. Nowadays, aromatherapy and aromatherapy oils are used in many ways for healing, relaxation, meditation and helping the body and mind.
For a good aromatherapy oil kit you will need a variety of oils which can be used for an array of purposes but alongside this you may need a number of aromatherapy accessories in order to produce best results when blending and using oils.
An oil burner or aromatherapy diffuser is perhaps one of the most essential items you might need as it vaporises the scent of the oil – if you are using a particular oil to enhance breathing or as a relaxant it breaks down the oil into smaller particles which can be absorbed into your body easily and swiftly.
Carrier oils are also essential aromatherapy accessories especially for use in mixing and blending oils. There are about 20 commonly known and used carrier oils mainly with a vegetable or nut based but perhaps the most popular are coconut, almond and grape seed oils. They are used to dilute the essential oils before applying to the skin and make the oils go that little bit further. They are rich in essential fatty acids making them especially nourishing to the skin improving the look and feel of skin and sometimes help to combat eczema.
If you wish to make your own aromatherapy products by blending and mixing oils you must ensure you are using good quality bottles and jars to store the products in. There are a range of products out there but to keep your lotions, blended oils and massage oils in good condition you will need to ensure that you use containers made for the purpose of storing them. You should avoid plastic containers as the oil will gradually eat through the container and likewise clear bottles result in the oils being light damaged. For best results, make sure that when buying jars and bottles that they are glass and coloured; cobalt, blue, brown or amber are all effective and protect the oils for longer.
Other aromatherapy accessories you may require are light rings, pipettes, storage boxes, holistic music or even a massage or aromatherapy guide book.
